Devil, ondanks de prille carrière, is wellicht geen onbekende meer. Omwille van het gestaag groeiende legioen 70ties geïnspireerde doomrock bands en al evenzeer dankzij hun debuut ep "Magister mundi xum" (2010). Misschien even terzijde, maar laat ons daarbij het succes van fenomeen Ghost niet vergeten. Het herboren Pentagram al helemaal niet. Ondertussen weten de niet kenners wat ze zullen krijgen op dit eerste volwaardige album van deze Noren. En Devil brengt het al even eerlijk en authentiek als voornoemde. Ongelooflijk toch hoe, laat ons wel wezen, niet echt originele muziek en een vandaag de dag vrijwel permanente nieuwe aanvoer ons (of minstens toch mij) telkenmale over de streep trekt. Van twee herwerkingen van hun debuut weten we al dat ze werken: "Time to repent' schopt het zelfs tot titeltrack, "At the blacksmith's" blijft ook hier nog steeds de absolute Devil anthem! Maar in hun kielzog slepen ze wel schitterende nieuwe tracks als "Blood is boiling" of "Howling (at the world)" mee. Zo avontuurlijk klonk heavy metal in zijn vroege begindagen, zo bevlogen kan het vandaag nog steeds klinken! Straf plaatje...

Devil, despite of their young career, is probably not a stranger. Because of the constantly growing legion of seventies inspired doomrock bands and off course thanks to their debut ep "Magister mundi xum" (2010). Besides that, let's not forget the success of Ghost nor the truly reborn Pentagram. Meanwhile not followers know what to expect on this first full length of these Norwegians. Rest assured, Devil brings it equally honest and authentic as those mentioned. It's almost incredible that, let's be honest, not really original music and nowadays constant stream of releases keeps convincing us (or me at least). From two refreshed tracks from their debut we already know that they work: "Time to repent" even makes it to title track, "At the blacksmith's" remains up there as the absolute Devil anthem (up till now)! In their slipstream they carry great new tracks as "Blood is boiling" or "Howling (at the world)". This is how fresh and adventurous heavy metal sounded in its actual beginning; this is how impassioned it still can sound! What an album...
