Hell Spawn

Het is niet evident om een objectieve review te schrijven voor een band waar je fan van bent. Waarom ik nou weer een fan ben van Procession? Om de heel eenvoudige reden dat dit trio doom metal brengt van de zuiverste soort. Hun muziek klinkt waarlijk verdoemd! Donker, obscuur, somber, plechtig, statig, groots en melancholisch, zoals je van het genre in essentie eigenlijk verwacht. Dat was zo op hun debuut "The cult of disease" (wat ondanks zijn 46 minuten in wezen een ep was) en dat is al evenzeer zo op deze opvolger. En dan maakt het niet uit dat je "The road to the gravegarden" nog maar eens voorgeschoteld krijgt. Het helpt je zelfs 'vergelijken' en dan kan je alleen maar vaststellen dat deze nieuwe Procession krachtiger, voller klinkt (dat basgeluid, jongens!). Maar ook dat dankzij nieuwe leden Claudio Bottaro Neira (bas) en drummer Francisco Aguirre het talent van frontman/gitarist Felipe Plaza nog beter uit de verf komt. En dat zit niet alleen in zijn moddervette riffwerk, maar zeer zeker ook in zijn majestueuze zangstijl. Kortom, "Destroyers of the faith" heeft mijn bewondering voor Procession alleen maar versterkt! En voor de praktische afhandeling: vinyl versie op High Roller, digipack cd op Doomentia...

It's not quite easy to write an objective review for a band that you are a fan of. Why I am a Procession fan again? For the very simple reason that this threesome brings doom metal of the purest kind. Their music sounds truly doomed! Dark, obscure, gloomy, solemn, grand, weighty and melancholic, exactly as you would essentially expect from the genre. That was on their debut "The cult of disease" (although its 46 minutes actually an ep) and that's absolutely so on this follow up. And then you don't care if you get "The road to the gravegarden" once more. In fact it helps you 'compare' and then you can only notice that this new Procession sounds more powerful, sounds richer (that bass sound, guys!). And also that new members Claudio Bottaro Neira (bass) and drummer Francisco Aguirre amplify the talent of frontman Felipe Plaza. Not only in his massive riffing, but certainly in his majestic vocal style. In short, "Destroyers of the Faith" has only strengthened my admiration for Procession!
