Hell Spawn

"Draw down the moon" is het nieuwste wapenfeit van deze vier heksen, die alweer via een nieuwe platenfirma verschijnt. De band gaat verder op het voorgeplaveide elan. Voor mij is dit gewoon het logische vervolg op het vorige album "Songs for the lost". De productie is nog steeds iets speciaals bij Icarus Witch, ietwat eighties maar zeker niet oubollig en ook niet al te modern. Maar het past wonderwel bij hun sound en het levert de perfecte sfeer op. Vooral de fantastische en eigenzinnige stem van Matthew komt er extra door naar voor.  Acht eigen composities worden hier aangeboden en een covertje, namelijk "The ripper" van Judas Priest. Eventjes wennen is hier de boodschap, maar best leuk! Er staan enkele van de bands betere songs op deze nieuwe cd, het fantastische titelnummer, "Aquarius rising", "Black candles", "Reap what you sow", "Funeral wine"... Het enige minpuntje aan "Draw down the moon" is wat mij betreft de speelduur, met zijn 35 minuten is hij toch wat aan de korte kant. Men had er beter toch nog een of twee songs bijgezet. Maar de heren opteren wellicht voor de uitdrukking: beter kort maar krachtig. Eindconclusie: een prima cd'tje die al vaak zijn weg naar m'n cd speler heeft gevonden. Ook nog een pluim voor het schitterende artwork! All hail the witches!

"Draw down the moon" is the newest offering from these 4 witches, that appears through yet another new record company. The band continues on the road they paved before. To me this is the logical successor to the previous album "Songs for the lost". The production is still something special with Icarus Witch: a bit eighties but not outdated and also not to modern. But is fits perfectly to their sound and it creates the perfect atmosphere. Which brings Matthew's amazing and unique voice to its fullest capacity. Eight own songs are being presented along with a cover tune: "The ripper" from Judas Priest. You need to adjust a little while, but after that it does it's magic. On this new record we can find some of the bands best songs ever: the amazing title track, "Aquarius rising", "Black candles", "Reap what you sow", "Funeral wine"... The only minor thing on the record is maybe it's playtime, 35 minutes is pretty short so maybe they should have put one or two songs extra on it. But perhaps the guys want it short and to the point. Conclusion: a very nice cd that has made its way to my cd player more than often. Also some extra credits for the amazing artwork! All hail the witches!!!
