Hell Spawn

Ik kende welgeteld één band uit Chili en dat was/is Procession, een fenomenale doomband in de betere Solstice, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus sferen (zeker eens zoeken naar "Cult of disease" uit 2009!). Toen ik deze ep in mijn handen kreeg, gokte ik wegens naam en titel ook op enige Zuid Amerikaanse connectie en warempel zie, de zanger/gitarist van Capilla Ardiente is niemand minder dan Felipe Plaza, de frontman van Procession! Een uitstekende vocalist en een aimabele kerel met een exquise muzieksmaak. Samen met bassist Claudio Bottaro Neira is hij de spil van deze nieuwe band die debuteert met een 12 inch "Solve et coagula". Twee woorden die ieder een titel van een nummer (en plaatkant) vertegenwoordigen. "Solve" is een 11 minuten durend monster, "Coagula" walst 13 minuten over je heen. De invloeden zijn vergelijkbaar met die van Procession, al is het nog net iets epischer. En door de opbouw van de songs zeker geen flauw doorslagje. Daarvoor is dit duo veel te talentrijk. Een absolute aanrader voor doomfans, maar haast u want er zijn maar 500 exemplaren (waarvan 100 op bierkleurig splatter-vinyl) beschikbaar!

I knew exactly one band from Chile and that was/is Procession, a phenomenal doomband in the greater Solstice, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus spheres (do check out "Cult of disease" from 2009!). When I received this ep, I betted on a South American connection because of the name and title. And guess what, the vocalist/guitarist for Capilla Ardiente is none other than Felipe Plaza, also front man of Procession! An excellent vocalist and sympathetic fellow with an exquisite taste in music. Together with bass player Claudio Bottaro Neira he forms this new band who debuts with a 12 inch "Solve et coagula". Two words that each refer to the title of a song (and record side). "Solve" is an 11 minute monster, "Coagula" steamrolls over you for 13 minutes. Influences are comparable to those of Procession, although this is much more epic. And because of the structure of these songs definitely no replica. Therefore these gentlemen are too talented.
