Hell Spawn

Zo net voor de jaarwissel viel de cd van dit eenmansproject bij ons in de bus! De betreffende persoon, Calie Cox dus, is in het verleden in verscheidene bands actief geweest en heeft nu de tijd rijp geacht voor een solo avontuur. En eerlijk gezegd, de brave man doet dat helemaal niet slecht. Je moet de muziek van Calie ergens situeren in de richting van Rush, Led Zeppelin en Pavlov's Dog. Heavy melodieuze rock voorzien van een mooie, krachtige ietwat speciale stem. Voor sommigen mogelijk een love it or hate it geval. Persoonlijk kies ik resoluut voor het eerste. Luister maar eens naar de mooie ballads "Midnight's dreaming" en "The morning after", gewoon fantastisch en wat een emotie! De cd heeft hier vaak zijn rondjes gedraaid tegen de avond in het schemerduister en daar komt de muziek volgens mij ook het best tot zijn recht! Oogjes dicht en genieten op deze mooie klanken is de boodschap! Maar er is uiteraard ook wat steviger materiaal te bespeuren op dit schijfje, luister maar eens naar het lekker rockende "Spellbound" dat me af en toe wat aan Tesla doet denken of het lekker swingende "Is it me?". Uiteraard verbergt "Obvious" nog meer leuke geheimpjes, maar die moet je zelf maar zien te ontdekken. Met zijn dertien tracks klokt "Obvious" af op zo'n goeie 65 minuten muziek, dus waar voor je geld! Tezamen met een collega heeft Calie ondertussen nog een project uit genaamd The Temple Of Now, daar ga ik ook eens naar op zoek. Just before the year change we received the cd of this one man project! This man, Calie Cox, was active in some other bands in the past, but felt the time was right for a solo adventure. And honestly, the guy isn't doing a bad job at all. You should place Calie's Music somewhere between Rush, Led Zeppelin and Pavlov's Dog. Heavy melodic rock accompanied by a beautiful, powerfull and maybe special voice. Maybe for some a love it or hate it case. For me it's definitely the first option! Listen to the beautiful ballads "Midnight's dreaming" and "The morning after", amazing and what an emotion in it! The cd played a lot here in the evening and at dusk the music really comes to full advantage. Just close your eyes and enjoy these beautiful songs. Off course there are some heavier tunes on the cd aswell,  listen to the nice rockin "Spellbound" which reminds me a bit of Tesla or the real swinger "Is it me?". Off course there are more secrets to be discovered on "Obvious", but you need to check and find them out for yourselves! With its 13 songs the cd lasts a good 65 minutes, value for money. Together with a colleague Calie has another project going called The Temple Of Now, which I now definitely need to check out!
